Eyes for Beauty

Whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord.

—2 Corinthians 3:16-18

There’s spotty internet here but I wanted to get down these thoughts before I lose them.  I’m blogging from my cell phone so we’ll see how this goes…

This view…. I honestly don’t even care about the pool.  It’s the mountain and trees… there is a big beautiful ocean behind me but I can’t helped facing the mountains and taking in the beauty.  It reminds me of photos I’ve seen of Papua.

As I sat and prayed that God would never let me forget the beauty, it reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend who used to live in Colorado.  One day we were walking out of Taco Bell and I stopped them right in their tracks and said “Look!  Look at this gorgeous place where you live!!  Do you even see it anymore??”  Ministry and the everyday life and hardship that comes with that can sometimes overshadow the amazing beauty God has put around us.

Then, at another point this week, someone talked about wanting to move south of Indiana into the sunshine and forget the snow.  I found myself explaining how moving away sounds all well and good until you really start thinking about the goodbyes and all the things you will miss at home.  I saw Indiana through the eyes of someone who will go years at a time without having THE BEST sweetcorn in the world, the beauty of the dunes and Lake Michigan, the friends and family we leave behind….

So here I sit, staring at these gorgeous mountains and I pray no heartache, no struggle, no nothing will ever overshadow the beauty God has right in front of any of us, each day.  There’s good all around us, we just have to ask God to help us have eyes to see.  He has plans for us but our human minds are always longing for something more.

Do you even see the beautiful life all around you?  Live today for today with eyes open to see…. tomorrow will come in it’s own time.  Don’t miss today.
