There hasn’t been much to report today. They have taken down a few of her vent settings and she is doing really good. Maybe tomorrow night or Sunday they will try to extubate. Makes me nervous but we’ll see. She is distended in her abdomen but they said that is to be expected still from surgery Wednesday night and that she is still retaining fluids from that. There has been a little bit coming out of Charlie Brown today so I’m hoping that is a good sign too.
I’ve been talking to her all day and a few times it seemed like she blinked in response but it’s hard to tell. She’s pretty sedated.
She ran a fever today so they took blood cultures to see what’s going on. She’s on day 7 of antibiotics for pneumonia and the UTI so they’re just trying to figure that out.
Today we requested and got back our favorite ICU nurse (the one that reminds me of Laila’s former teacher). It’s amazing how quickly you can bond with staff when you see that this is their true calling and that they really truly care about your child in a different way than professionally. Our “Angel nurse” from upstairs keeps coming to visit and pray over Laila as well. We are blessed.
We received a window decoration yesterday and since the sun was shining today I spent a lot of time by the window trying to soak it up. It was good to have that reminder on there as I gazed outside today during this day of rest and peace.
All in all it has been a good day. I’m thankful but cautious with how quickly things have turned on this roller coaster in the past few weeks.
