Hello Charlie Brown

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

They took Laila for the contrast study yesterday which including putting contrast into her gTube, studying under an X-ray and then coming to her room to X-ray every few hours for the rest of the day to see how it went through. It went well….. Maybe too well. Charlie Brown has been dumping and dumping like crazy. Like if the nurse doesn’t empty it every hour we have problems. And speaking of problems….

The ostomy nurse came in so excited because she found a company to take our insurance that can get us the bag that we need…. And then she left for the day and these bags started leaking too. We had to change it twice last evening. I find it completely ridiculous that an ostomy bag can be leaking straight into the urine port and the answer I get is “we’ll just have to make do until someone comes in tomorrow.” This was at 4:30 pm.

Since the contrast pulls all the moisture to the bowels and is having so much output, now the bladder is having troubles. They finally put in an order to up her IV fluids to try to balance that out. Hoping that happens soon. She cries that she thinks she peed the bed but nothing comes out. She’s just feeling all the pressure I think.

Her belly is distended today and the doctor thinks it’s because of the contrast from yesterday so until that goes down we won’t be feeding her. He’s hopeful things will look better this afternoon. He also said the study showed her bowels are still pretty dilated. I asked why and he said still surgery recovery….

Her wound they opened is looking better and they will continue the antibiotics. I had stated that it will stay open three weeks but to clarify, that does not mean we have to be here that long. They will teach me how to pack and unpack it. Yippee. It’s honestly pretty gross.

So that’s all I can think of for now.

And my grandma passed away yesterday. Pray for our family as we try to juggle everything with Laila, the big kids being on spring break, and figuring out how to best help our family through this time.

Have I mentioned that I want to go home?

1 Peter: 5. 10–And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

But then there’s Laila… Having dance parties with her favorite nurse.
