Disturbed Roots

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

—John 15:4

When I returned from furlough, I decided to buy some plants to bring color to my yard.  I bought a pink flower bush and a white flower bush.  I enjoyed them sitting in front of my porch for a few weeks and the beautiful colors to enjoy when I would walk up to my door.  They were purchased with the soil and roots in that temporary black plastic wrap with holes cut in for drainage.

After about a month, I bought pots to transplant them in to so they would have a more permanent home.  Then something happened…All the flowers died and haven’t come back yet.
Their roots were disturbed and that traumatized them and they just haven’t had the strength that they need to flower again yet.
They aren’t dead, they are very much alive.  They just don’t look how I thought they would look at this time.  I thought by now they would be flowering again.  There is sunshine and it’s rainy season here.  They have everything they need but yet they just aren’t feeling like flowering again yet.

How about you?  Have any of your roots been disturbed this year?  Have you had unexpected changes that have left you unable to feel like you can “flower” right now.

  • a move
  • a divorce
  • a death
  • a sickness
  • a change that knocked you off your feet

It’s ok.  It’s ok to use all of your energy to just be right now.  It’s ok to have a season without flowers.
you’re still beautiful to your precious, loving intentional Creator.

As you ring in a new year, remember that your Father is all the root you need.  He will make you flower in His time.

Happy NEW Year.  Tuhan berkati 🙏🏻
