Laila had another fantastic day. She was up and around and even took Judy for a walk around the unit and pretended to work at the computer in the play room.
We started the feeding today with 30ml every three hours. By the time we got to the final feeding at 6pm she was a little bloated and had some residual milk left in her stomach but not too much. And she will have all night to finish processing that before we begin again tomorrow morning at 9am. We will be slowly working back up to our normal 280ml every three hours so we still have a long way to go.
I did all of the cathing and ostomy emptying myself today and it’s all coming natural. There were also less wet diapers. Cathing every three hours and making sure we sit her straight up each time seems to be helping. Everyone is different and we just have to find what works for Laila. Last night was not so fun as she cried and was uncomfortable with bladder spasms but today was better.
Jack came back with the big kids last night because RJ had an Ocularist appointment this morning. He has grown so much that they are talking about surgery to replace his implant this summer to continue to have his eye socket grow right. We’ll have to discuss that with his opthamologist.
I’m getting some rest and big kid time at RMH tonight. Tomorrow morning I will stop by the hospital for another quick class with the ostomy nurse while she teaches Jack and refreshes me and then late morning I will be heading home for the first time in 26 days to attend my grandmother’s wake and funeral. Jack will be in charge. He’s such an amazing hands on dad and I know he can handle it. Of course the momma bear in me is nervous but it’s just something I will have to do. Prayers appreciated for that.
I’m guessing they will increase the feeding amount tomorrow to 45 or 60ml every three hours but we’ll see.
Please keep praying. We banded together today and it was the best day so far, let’s continue to ask God to guide us home.
