Ranjit Day Four

Monday, November 5, 2012

I really can’t believe our fourth full day with Ranjit is over and we were originally supposed to be meeting him today.  I’m so glad that we had the opportunity to spend this time relaxing as a family before all the appointments and everything begins when we travel to Delhi on Wednesday morning.  It’s been great to bond and get to know his personality in an unrushed environment.  We had thought a few times of switching our flight to Delhi and getting there sooner since we met him early but there were fees involved and honestly I just felt overwhelmed by the thought of changing everything I had worked so hard to get figured out.  I hope I’m not kicking myself for that later if things don’t go smoothly at the embassy and med center.

Today we kept things pretty low key.  Jack let me get some time to myself to gather my thoughts and that is what I did when I wrote the blog I posted this morning for yesterday.  The hotel has a fitness room and lounge and there is a little laundry room in there as well so I went down there and did laundry and blogged.  In the afternoon Emma and I went to the salon attached to our hotel and got pedicures just to get some one on one time.  Wish we lived here, the pedicures at $7!!  I tried not to think about if they were using sterilized equipment…. life on the wild side over here ;)  Emma really wanted to do the fish pedicure that Sandwich told us about but they didn’t do them there.  I’m glad because that would’ve freaked me out!

We went to breakfast this morning and there were no pancakes involved today. Ranjit ate chicken momos at dinner last night so we got him some boiled eggs, a few chicken sausages and some melon and papaya and he ate very nicely.  He’s really doing well with it and tonight we had some more Asian food and the pad thai noodles were on the spicy side and he still ate them.  I think he was having fun with the long noodles and I was letting him eat them with his fingers which was really fun :)

We decided no more cartoon network for us which besides cricket is the only channel we had watched.  Almost every cartoon is about Hindu gods and Ranjit has that very engrained in him at this point.  While we totally respect his culture and plan to keep his heritage, we won’t be continuing any of the Hindu religion.  We won’t be disrespectful or condescending about it and I think he’s still young enough that it won’t be much of a change for him except the names in prayers.  The Hindu gods do seem to be his heros since they’re all in the cartoons though.  We remembered that we had downloaded some Mickey Mouse episodes and the Jonah veggie tales movie to our itunes so we played those for him today and now when he sees me open it he says “Mickey Mouse??”

He has been doing his homework just fine now that we’ve given him a different notebook than the ones he used at the orphanage.  He is actually a child who really likes to write and practice his letters and numbers.  He’s been copying down his name I think he’ll be writing it on his own in no time.  Again. so smart!!

While the kids were in the shower yesterday playing buckets he sang us his ABC’s.  It was fun to hear him sing it and he really loves to sing and dance.

He’s testing his waters with us a little bit again today with trying to see if we’ll stick to our no’s and yes’s but when we do he complies and hasn’t thrown a fit…….yet………  Tonight was better at bedtime than last night as well.  He still cried and I had to stay with him until he fell asleep but he settled down quicker and fell asleep quickly too.

We took a walk this evening while we waited for the restaurant to open for dinner.  They eat very late here and I bet my crazy dad would love it!  We of course got many stares and risked our lives with the crazy traffic but it was again nice to get out.  The kids already had mosquito bites on their legs when they woke up this morning which made me very thankful that we decided to do the malaria meds.  Hoping they work!  Jackson is also still fighting the cough he got when we got here and has been up in the night every night.  Last night he woke up Ranjit too which meant very little sleep for mommy.

Tomorrow night we pack because our flight to Delhi is early Wednesday morning.  Not sure if I’ll get to blog or not.  We’ll see….

For those that didn’t see it on the facebook page, this is what my brother-in-law who donated our website wrote:

“Since you left, you’ve had 569 unique visitors to the website from the US, Canada, UK, Australia and more! With 40% of them being first time visitors. I thought it was cool how many people were following your journey!”

How cool is that??  We’re thankful for this opportunity to share our lives with so many.  God gets all the glory here!
